Code of Conduct

1. Purpose

The Mount Royal University (MRU) Squash Club (the “club”) is committed to fostering a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members, staff and guests. This code of conduct outlines the expectations for behaviour to ensure a positive experience for everyone; while promoting sportsmanship, fairness and accountability.

2. Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all club members, guests, and participants during all club activities, including but not limited to:

  • Matches, training sessions, tournaments, and social events

  • Interactions with other members, MRU staff and the public

  • Communications through email, social media or any other club-related channels.

3. Behavioural Expectations

All members and participants are expected to:

3.1 Respect For Others

  • Treat members, MRU staff, and guests with dignity, kindness and respect

  • Avoid aggressive, abusive, intimidating, or discriminatory language or behaviour

  • Promote inclusion by respecting diversity 

3.2 Respect Facilities & Rules

  • Follow all recreation policies and procedures while at MRU

  • Leave courts, equipment and shared spaces in proper condition

  • Use courts only during officially booked times and adhere to posted schedules

3.3 Communicate

  • Direct all concerns regarding court bookings, scheduling or club activities to the club’s leadership team rather than MRU staff

  • Communicate respectfully and constructively in all club-related discussions, both in-person and online

3.4 Demonstrate Sportsmanship

  • Exhibit fairness, honesty and integrity during matches and interactions

  • Respect match officials, opponents, and teammates regardless of outcome

  • Refrain from actions that disrupt the enjoyment of others or tarnish the club’s reputation

4. Prohibited Behaviour

The following actions are strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action:

  • Harassment, bullying, or discrimination of any kind based on race, gender, age, sexual orientation, or other protected characteristics

  • Aggressive, abusive, or disrespectful behaviour toward MRU staff, other club members or guests

  • Damage to MRU property, equipment or facilities

  • Public intoxication or inappropriate conduct at club events or on MRU premises

  • Intentional disruption of matches, tournaments or other club activities

5. Reporting Concerns

Members and staff are encouraged to report code of conduct violations. Concerns can be directed to the club’s leadership team via:

  • Confidential online form (if available)

All reports will be handled confidentially, investigated promptly and addressed in a fair and consistent manner

6. Disciplinary Actions

Violations will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Possible actions include:

  • Verbal or written warnings

  • Suspension of club privileges for a defined period

  • Termination of membership

  • Referral to MRU Recreation or legal authorities

The club’s leadership team will ensure that disciplinary decisions are transparent and in alignment with the club’s governance policies.

7. Acknowledgment

All members are required to review and acknowledge this code of conduct as a condition of annual membership.

8. Amendments

The code of conduct will be updated periodically. Members will be notified of any significant changes and required to review and re-acknowledge the updated code. Members will also have an opportunity to provide feedback on proposed changes before they are finalized.
